Abstract

Antecedents. Adult attention deficit disorder (A-ADHD), anxiety, and depression are among the first mental health problems globally. Method. The study examined symptoms reported for all three clinical conditions in a sample of university students. Procedure. Through screening 575 participants (ASRSv1.1 of 6 items), we iden-tified 110 participants (70 women and 40 men) with the highest clinical indicators for A-ADHD, representing 19% of the total sample. Participants in this sub-sample also took the 18-item version of the ASRSv1.1 and the Beck anxiety and depression scales. Results. The anxiety-depression correlation was high in both groups, but for women was higher. In contrast, the anxiety-A-ADHD correlation was higher in men. For women, the anxiety-depression variables did not predict either together or separately the A-ADHD scores; however, for men, there was a prediction explained solely by anxiety. Discussion. The results indicate differences between women and men, which add to the need to develop specific mental health parameters based on the sex-gender criterion.
