Abstract

The new disease of COVID-19 has become a pandemic that affects physical and mental health, the economy, and social interactions and has deleterious social and psychological implications. All these factors have been frequent in the scientific literature. People affected by COVID-19 may have a high burden of mental health problems, such as depression, anxiety, or post-traumatic stress disorder. The present document research collected articles published over the past five years in indexed journals and databases such as PubMed, Medline, and Cochrane. A search used the terms "virus," "coronavirus", "COVID-19", "pandemic", and "epidemic". Findings suggest that mental disorders such as acute stress disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, distress, depression, anxiety, and insomnia have increased greatly since the pandemic's beginning. Such disorders strongly affect mental health. Other global data also suggest increased prevalence in organizational settings. The epidemiological studies thus collected suggest that COVID-19 does have such an effect.
