Abstract

Patients with end-stage-renal disease undergoing dialysis are a group of highly vulnerable patients to get COVID-19 or develop serious clinical complications and have to face new challenges to make sure their survival and psychological well-being. Despite many protocols and recommendations have been published aimed at both patients in dialysis and their relatives and healthcare providers, there is not enough scientific information about the actions that psychonephrologists could implement during this current pandemic. This article makes a brief characterization of this kind of patients and proposes a set of actions that health psychonephrologists could implement in order to minimize psychological risks and preserve the highest quality of life possible in these people and their relatives and healthcare providers during the pandemic and recovery stages.
