Resumen
Durante su educación universitaria, los estudiantes experimentan un nuevo entorno que implica adaptarse a las nuevas formas de relacionarse con sus familias y compañeros. Tal periodo se caracteriza por cambios en la edad adulta temprana que pueden afectar la salud mental. Debido a la reciente pandemia de covid-19, las actividades de los estudiantes se llevaron a cabo en un formato virtual. Considerando lo anterior, este estudio analiza la asociación de los indicadores de depresión y la conexión académica en estudiantes universitarios de la universidad pública de Guatemala. Se obtuvieron datos de 494 estudiantes de diferentes carreras. Para medir la conexión académica, los estudiantes completaron una adaptación de la subescala del instrumento What it is Happening in the School (WHITS), y para la depresión el cuestionario Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ9), además de un cuestionario sociodemográfico. Se llevó a cabo una regresión lineal simple, siendo significativo el modelo (F [1, 49] = 79.10, p < .001, R² 13%), con una ecuación Y = β0 (17.53) + β1 (-0.32) X. Los resultados obtenidos demostraron una asociación negativa entre las variables estudiadas; es decir, que una mayor conexión académica se asocia a una disminución de los indicadores de depresión.
